Emergency Preparedness

Action Plan for July: Cooking

  • Can you prepare food without your normal kitchen appliances? It's important to know how to safely make meals when the lights are out and the gas is gone. Having a safe source of cooking heat and knowing different means of cooking are vital  to "be ready" for emergency survival
  • Understand various cooking options.  Select one or more cooking option that would work best for you.  Gather sufficient supplies to cook for you and your family for a minimum of two weeks.   Practice using the cooking method and equipment.

Plan:

Prepare:

  • Start or Update your Emergency Cooking Plan
  • Gather equipment and fuel to allow you to safely cook for a MINIMUM of 2 weeks
  • Extend to longer times for extended emergencies
  • Developing more than one cooking option will allow for flexibility

Practice:

  • Hands on practice has been shown to be the best way to be able to respond well in an emergency.   Dry run various scenarios and the anxiety of the emergency is greatly decreased.
  • Practice using only outdoor cooking methods for a full meal or better yet for a full day..  Note what worked well and what improvements could be made
  • Involve the kids.  Make it fun and they will feel less anxiety in an actual emergency

Youth Book of Mormon Reading Challenge

We started a Book of Mormon challenge at the beginning of March, and the goal is to read from the Book of Mormon every day!  The youth were given a reading chart and asked to mark off the days they read…it does not have to be consecutive days…we have rewards for 21 days, 60 days, 100 days, 150 days, and 200 days.  When the youth complete one of these benchmarks, they can talk to a leader to get a reward! They do not need to read a certain amount, 1 verse, a chapter, for a certain amount of time; whatever they feel they can read each day is all that is asked.  We invite all youth to participate!

Latter-Day Prophets Speak

“Jesus Christ: The Caregiver of Our Soul,” by Elder Ulisses Soares

General Conference, April 2021

“I testify to you that as we genuinely repent of our sins, we allow the atoning sacrifice of Christ to become wholly effective in our life. We will become free from the bondage of sin, find joy in our earthly journey, and become eligible to receive eternal salvation, which was prepared from the foundation of the world for all who believe in Jesus Christ and come unto Him. In addition to providing the majestic gift of salvation, the Savior offers us relief and comfort as we face our afflictions, temptations, and weaknesses of mortal life…”
